Winona Laura Horowitz known as Winona Ryder an American actress born on October 29, 1971 in Olmsted country Minnesota. Born in the family of writers, she was named differently after a small nearby town Winona. The sir name Ryder in her stage name which came from a deep inspiration of a famous rock singer Mitch Ryder.

Ryder was 7 years old when her family moved to a commune in a remote property a technology deprived area without electric facilities there she found her interests in reading and later discovered a great passion for acting. In 1983 she along with her family moved to Petaluma California where she was enrolled in American Conservancy Theatre for acting classes.

In 1989 she graduated from Petaluma High School and soon after she gave her first audition for the film Desert Bloom although she didn’t succeed in getting the part but there she was noticed by director/writer David Seltzer and casted her in his film Lucas in 1986 co-starred with Charlie Sheen and Kerri Green.

In 1987 she appeared in her second movie Square Dance from which she gained public praise for her role in the movie but unfortunately the movie was marginally successful. In 1988 famous director Tim burton casted Ryder in his movie Beetlejuice, in which she perfectly played the role of a Goth teenager co-starred with Michael Keaton and Geena Davis from this movie  she gained recognition in the industry and attained a higher status as an actress.

In 1988 Ryder’s performance in her first independent film Heathers  was critically embraced and received an overall positive response, she from her role in the movie became an impressive ingénue but sadly the movie was a box office flop. Later the year she starred In The Balls of Fire which was also a box office failure.

In 1977 she was chosen by The People’s magazine as one of the top 50 most beautiful women for her charismatic petite appearance.  She now being a recognized Hollywood star has appeared on several Magazine covers and also helped the famous Italian designer Giorgio Armani in promoting his store chains in Manhattan.

In 1990, Winona Ryder was signed in four major films from where her tides of fame rose even higher.  Reuniting again with Tim Burton for her second fantasy film, she appeared in Edward Sissorhands alongside with Johnny Depp with whom she got engaged 1990 but lasted only 3 years. The movie received a significant attention grossing US$56 million at the United States box office and gained excellent critical overview. She was selected for the role of Mary Corleone in The Godfather Part III but unfortunately her health issues came in her way through which she couldn’t continue and soon was dropped out.

Mermaids her another 1990 success co-starred with Cher and Christina Ricci a comedy drama which also received critical attention and she became a recipient to Golden Globe Award  nominee  for the Best Actress  in a supporting  role.

Ryder also starred in The Age of Innocence directed by Martin Scorsese, her role in the movie won her a Golden Globe Award, 1993. In 1994 she played a lead role in little women and received her first Oscar Nomination. In 1996 she appeared with the hollywood heartthrob Angelina Jolie in Girl Interrupted.

On October 6,2000 Ryder received her own star on the Hollywood Walk of fame after which on her way up in her career she signed countless movies and dramas. In 2007 she gave a remarkable comeback starring in Star trek as Spock’s mother. Recently she appeared as a religious protester in a segment of Boston an episode on Comedy Central television series, Drunk History showing her diverse acting skills.
